Went out to Santa Barbara Island Friday morning solo on my 35 foot Bertram Ready To Assemble in search of the ghosts. Right at sundown, I thought I hooked a bat ray or a seal as my line went singing 80 spectra to a 60-pound fluoro leader with a dropper loop and a live squid. Biggest white seabass I ever caught. Weighed in at 70.5 pounds.

Saturday, June 24, 2017, a friend and I took a boat out in Convict Lake. The lake was extremely active. We caught a total of nine and there were several others that got away. I got my limit all on trolling baby nightcrawlers, with the exception of one on a trolled Thomas Buoyant red and gold spoon.

The water level is back up. There's a decent largemouth bite, just the size of the fish was an issue. We caught 15 fish near cover or at points in 5 to 15 feet of water. Most were only a pound or less. Only one fish over 2 pounds. Most fish were caught on wacky rigged green pumpkin plastic worms. One bass on a Keitech swimbait. Still a fun bite.

I wanted to share my catch of the day from the shores of SoCal. The photo taken by my wife Cindy Clavel. Caught on Sunday, June 25, 2017, this Barred Surf Perch was caught off the beach at Oxnard shores, and measures 15½ inches long. Unfortunately, I didn't weigh it. Looks to be really close to the record of 4 pounds 2 ounces.

Saturday at 6 p.m. caught this nice 3.6-pound holdover on 2-pound vanish and Carolina rigged garlic/salmon pb at Big Bear Lake. Great fight and great weather. Full tail trout … can't beat that.
Got this Gregory Lake largemouth reading 3.2 on the scale with a flylined worm on 2l-pound Vanish. The fish came off a submerged tree. I also got 3 small trout on garlic pb. Another great day of fishing.
