Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 8/13 – 8/20/17

August 20, 2017 6:56 am by Andrew Jones

There are only a few ways in which the fishing at Silver Lake could have improved over this past week and it happened!!!  A healthy load of 4,000 pounds of Desert Springs Rainbows was dumped into Silver Lake late Friday evening and it was like shooting fish in a barrel as these 1 to 3 pounders scattered throughout the lake.  Thanks to a Mono County for this unbelievable load of fish, that weighs in at 10 times our normal stocking, and Desert Springs for driving them to us all the way from Oregon.  A very special treat and we are extremely appreciative to have received it.  If you enjoy fishing in the Northern part of the county, Bridgeport Reservoir also received this healthy load of 4,000 pounds from the county as well.  A very nice boost to the entire county as we start to head towards the end of the fishing season.  Oh, did I mention that we also received our normal stocking from the state on Tuesday!!  The catching side of fishing just got a little easier!!!!

A wide range of baits, lures and flies worked well this past week as you would expect, but the number one “hot Ticket” this week was the ever faithful and consistent Thomas Buoyant Gold/Red as anglers were hooking up left and right using this Eastern Sierra Favorite.  Bait anglers saw good results from Night Crawlers, Berkley Power Baits and Berkley Pinch Crawlers and Mice Tails, as well as Zeke’s Garlic Dough Bait.  Nothing new here as these have all been top winners most of the summer.  Our Fly Fishermen have seen some great results out on Silver Lake and down on Rush Creek below the weir using Grey Hackle Peacocks, Yellow and Red Humpy’s and midges like a Zebra or Brassie.  Throw the tackle box at it the next few weeks as I have a feeling most things will be working as the lake is loaded with fish!!!!

Don’t forget Labor Day is only two short weeks away and we will be holding our Annual Chris Jones Memorial Scholarship Horseshoe Tournament and BBQ on Saturday September 2.  We are limiting the horseshoe tournament to the first 30 teams this year so if you are interested in playing make sure you sign up early as it will sell out!!!!  We look forward to seeing everyone at our last big shin-dig of the year!!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!

Fish of the Week:

Its a great problem to have when its hard to decide which fish should be this weeks “Fish of The Week”  So rather than pick one of many, this weeks “Fish of the Week” goes to Desert Springs Hatchery who brought us, not only this weeks mind blowing load of 4,000 pounds, but has brought us some of the best looking Rainbows over the past few years.  Thanks Desert Springs Hatchery.  You Guys Rock!!!
