UPPER SACRAMENTO RIVER

FISHING REPORT
Updated - 7/12/17

Current River Conditions: Flows are down to around 350 CFS at Delta, and the fishing is fair.

River is in good shape but is in its usual July mode. With the hot mid summer air temperatures fish the deep pools and oxygenated riffles. Swinging nymphs through riffles will get fish. Knowledgeable fishermen begin fishing in the morning at Delta and work their way upstream in elevation as the day progresses.

Bugs consist mainly of Mayflies and Caddis.  PMD larva imitations (bead head Pheasant Tails #14 & #16 will do) and or soft hackles rigged along with a heavy Bead Head Golden Stone imitation #8, should work well in the seams and edges.  A black or rusty Wooly Bugger will work well stripping in the seams.

If you new to the Upper Sac the best way to learn it is to spend a day with one of our guides.  Give us a call if you would like to book some time on the water.

LOWER SACRAMENTO RIVER

FISHING REPORT
Updated - 7/12/17

Current River Conditions: Flows are back up to around 11,000 CFS which is perfect for floating the Lower Sac.

River is fishing very well and with warmer temperatures more insects are coming daily including some PMDs, but mainly BWOs and Caddis.   It's important to get your fly down to the bottom so use enough weight.  Try swinging size #14 soft hackles in the riffles during hatches.  Stonefly nymps both Golden or Rubberlegs make a good anchor fly in a two fly nymph rig.  Tie in a size #16 beadhead/flashback PT below.

There is not a lot of dry fly action but keep your eyes open for rises later in the day and throw an Elk Hair Caddis at them.
