Reader Report by Shawn Grimm

Hunter Grimm and dad, Shawn, had a great day on the rockfish as shown by this nice pair of Father/Son reds. This was on the Sat., Sept. 30, 2017 Promar/Ahi company trip on the Triton, fishing the Farnsworth for a tough yellowtail bite in the morning and then filling sacks with rockfish later in the morning and early afternoon. Those Ahi Assault, Live Deception and Squirt jigs made hooking-up on the tasty taco meat quick work. This was Hunter’s first trip of this kind and, as his smile shows, he is hooked.

My son pulled up this pot himself on opening night after he swore it was "stuck" on the bottom. Bugs!

Taytum and brother Cade Ruckle went on their first ½- day trip on the Electric out of Oceanside. Taytum caught her first lingcod, brother Cade caught his first red rockfish. They are hooked for life on ocean fishing. Couple more trips, the kids will be ready for multi-day fishing trips. (Cade, 4 years old, is known as a legend for his bass fishing in Bullhead City, Ariz.)

California Spiny Lobster season is well underway, with good scores of lobsters being taken. This nice bug was taken from Santa Barbara Island on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 from the Truth. Weather was good enough on this 4-day trip to get to the Cortez Banks as well. Several limits were filled on the live aboard trip.

Went out to Anacapa Island with a couple buddies on his 25-foot Parker Pappy Parker. While fly lining live sardines, we managed to pick up a dozen smaller grade yellowtail up to 15 pounds. With only a few pieces of live bait left, we managed to hook into a couple larger size yellowtail one over 4-foot long and 37 pounds. Another great day at the Channel Island.

Lobster fishing has been excellent with EZ Spottfishing getting limits nightly. Yanina went on her first lobster trip recently and got this monster after her second pull. Multiple legal bugs per hoop and lots of action.
