I caught this bluefin tuna at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 4, while fishing on the Cortez from Seaforth Landing. Capt. Jim "Rambo" Hughes took us just south of San Diego where he thought we might find the giants. I dropped my 250 gram Flat Fall down a few times without avail and then "WHAM", and I buckled down for the long haul. Using my Accurate BX30 paired with a custom Armando Gonzalez Super Seeker rod, Tanner and Kyle (deckhands extraordinaire) and I brought this monster in the boat in just under 40 minutes. It tapped out at 207 pounds. A personal best for me by 140 pounds! I was very happy to have rolled out of my bunk that early morning for sure.

While fishing Wednesday, June 7 on an overnight trip out of 22nd Street Landing on the Fortune, we landed two opah. Both were caught on flat-fall jigs, with the largest at approximately 160 pounds and the other at 60 pounds. I caught the larger one and the smaller one by Jeff Yamane of Palos Verdes Estates. The larger took around an hour to land, made more difficult by having the line wrapped with another angler. All in all, a very good day at sea.

Fished Rock Creek a couple days ago. The ice is melting and the fishing is improving. Focused my efforts on the outlet and did very well on mini-jigs. My mom used PowerBait and got a nice 22-inch rainbow trout. I caught my biggest brown trout yet estimated around 5 to 6 pounds. Wasn’t sure on the exact weight because I took a quick photo and released it right away.
