CANEY LAKE: The deep water bite is beginning to pay off as water temperatures fall with mixture of largemouth bass, yellow bass and crappie beginning to hit jigging spoons fished deep. A couple of lunker bass, one weighing 11.1 and another 9.3 pounds were caught this week fishing dark colored jigs 20 feet deep. The crappie bite is also picking up fishing shiners or jigs around deep brush. No report on bream or catfish. OUACHITA RIVER: Crappie fishing has been fair to good fishing shiners and jigs around submerged tops in the river. Bass are fair around the mouth of the cuts fishing soft plastics. For latest information, contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323-8707.

LAKE D’ARBONNE: With colder weather this week, crappie are moving to deep water following shad and some are beginning to bite shiners and jigs fished near the bottom in 20-22 foot water around the Highway 2 and 33 bridges. Bass fishing has been fair along the edges of the channel with crank baits, dark colored jigs and soft plastics picking up a few. LAKE CLAIBORNE: The water is down 8-10 feet. Bass had been biting fairly well in shallow water using crank baits and soft plastics. This cool spell has probably shut down the bite as shad they were chasing are moving deep. The crappie bite has not kicked off just yet as they make their transition to deep water out from the dam. Once they arrive, look for some good fishing using shiners or jigs down deep. No report on stripers, catfish or bream. LAKE POVERTY POINT: Crappie fishing is slowly improving afternoons around the boat slips and on the south end of the lake. Best jigs have been the Bobby Garland Blue Thunder, Monkey Milk, Blue Pearl and Threadfin Shad. Catfishing is good with some really big fish caught on cut shad.
