Incredible numbers of fish were released as well, twice as many as were sacked. Great sand bass and calico scores came in from the kelps and hard bottom spots all along the coast. The bite at the Coronado Islands was on too, with bulls to 9 pounds in the mix.
Offshore, the bite was scratchy, with plenty of fish to see but few that were cooperating. Top Gun 80 and Tribute each posted some good scores on better-grade kelp yellowtail. Tribute pulled 46 and Top Gun nabbed over 100 while fishing within sight of each other. However, there were others in the area that weren't so fortunate.
Tuna again showed in U.S. waters, as well as, below the border. There were yellowfin and bluefin tuna quit close to the coast, less than a dozen miles off Point Loma, but finding biters was another story.
Vagabond had one of the better scores fishing not far below the border, posting 14 yellowfin tuna and a yellowtail for 20 anglers. Liberty had 10 yellowfin on her 3/4-day trip Saturday. San Diego's Saturday 3/4-day had 13 yellowfin for 44 folks.
