FISHING REPORT
Updated - 10/20/17

Current River Conditions: Flows decreased a little to 33 CFS which is perfect for this beautiful water.
Fishing is great and is as good as it's going to get!   The freestone section in the canyon was planted with 600 lbs of fish this week and is fishing well.  A large percentage of the fish are over 14" with some as large as 7lbs!  Fish were generally planted at the bridges, of the side roads. We fished it again on Sunday and did well, but not as well as the week before.  We saw some behemoth fish in the deep pools but couldn't get them to grab.  Right now beaded flashback pattern #16 or smaller particularly if it has some red,  will get you the most fish.  We did pretty well on natural and olive Bird's Nest patterns.  Best fishing is from late morning on.

Recommended Patterns

Current River Conditions: Flows have dropped slightly down to 123 CFS which is a great flow for this river.
Fishing is as good as it's going to get! Todd Sodaro of Alpine County Fish & Game Commission told me that they planted 1,200 lbs of fish in the river this week.  All of the fish were at least 14" or larger with some up to 7lbs! The  hot fly is anything size #16 and smaller that is bright red.  Fish have been planted in several spots along Hwy 89 and Hwy 4. Best fishing is from late morning on.

Recommended Patterns

Pheasant Tail #12, #14 & #16, San Juan Worm/passionate pink, Liz's Tequila Twist, Golden Stone Nymph #8,, #10, & #12, Copper John/red or copper #14, #16, Prince Nymph (various sizes), Wooly Bugger/rusty, black, Glow Bug/red.  If you see a pod of planters, try dragging a rusty Wooly Bugger with a size #18, Copper John/red tied on as a dropper through the school.
