Kiene's American Fly Fishing Co. - Carson River

kiene's american river fly fishing report

WEST CARSON RIVER

Current River Conditions: Flows are holding steady at 110 CFS which has brought the river into its prime for the season.

Fishing is great.  The W Carson received a hugh plant this week from both Alpine County and CDFW. The section downstream from Sorenson's to Woodsfords is finally in good shape and received its first plant.  This is as good as its going to get.

Some PMDs, but mainly BWOs and midges are coming off daily, but few fish are taking them on te surface. Small PTs, San Juan Worms patterns and small soft hackles.  Don't forget Elk Hair Caddis too.

Recomended Patterns

Pheasant Tail #12, #14 & #16, San Juan Worm/passionate pink, Golden Stone Nymph #10, & #12, Copper John/red or copper #14, #16, Prince Nymph (various sizes), Wooly Bugger/rusty, black, Glow Bug/red, Squirmy Wormy/red, pink and brown.

EAST CARSON RIVER

Current River Conditions: Flows are now down to about 593 CFS and have held steady this week though still a little  too high which makes the river still difficult to wade.  That being said, there is still great fishing available from shore.

Fishing is just getting going. Todd at the Alpine County Fish & Game Commission says he planted over 1000 lbs of fish on Tuesday with more to come later in the week.  This is probably the most fish that will be stocked at any one time this year, so even though it is running high it is still worth giving a try.  He will also be planting Silver Creek (along Hwy 4) too.  Bring your sink tips and Wooly Buggers and strip along the edges.  CDFG also planted Markleeville Creek that runs through town.

Recommended Patterns
