“We are seeing more limits of trout,” said Lisa DeAlba of Collins Lake Recreation Area. “It has definitely picked up.” Last week a double plant of trout weighing more than 3,000 pounds went in Thursday. By the weekend trollers and shore anglers were getting in on the action.
“The catches have been half and half between the shore and boats,” DeAlba said. Biggest trout landed was a 6 pounder hooked by Joshua Yang of Olivehurst, who was using a Kastmaster from his kayak near the dam.
Jodi Haugen of Citrus Heights caught a 5½-pound trout using orange Power Bait in Elmer’s Cove and Gina Moyer of Petaluma landed a 5½ pounder with a nightcrawler near the boat launch.
Collins Lake will get another plant of 1,800 pounds next week.
Lake is 27 feet from full with good clarity. Water temperature is 62 degrees.
