Pretty tough fishing this past week on Almanor. Rising water temps, 70 plus degree weather and not a ripple on the water made for enjoyable days with few fish. It is hard to believe we are in the last week of October, that said if you can’t enjoy the beauty Lake Almanor, Mt. Lassen and the surrounding foothills offer it’s time to pick another sport.
We fished the entire lake this past week searching for a consistent bite and could never get anything going. We fished shallow, deep, fast, slow, pulling hardware, flies, Gulps and crawlers with and without dodgers and flashers. We would catch a fish here and there but never did establish any pattern.
Time to take a few days off and hit it hard next week when temps return to a more seasonal pattern.
We will finally get some weather this week, with chances of rain on Thursday, rain likely Friday and snow /rain predicted for Saturday and Sunday. Next Saturdays high is going to be in the low 40’s a thirty plus degree change in one week. I have not been by the USFS boat launch North of Pratville to see whether or not is has been removed. I was told it was coming out this past week, will post when I have confirmation.
Fishermen continue to catch fish in the coves around Canyon Dam using bait, hardware and flies; the majority of the fish are small with a few larger fish caught occasionally. Shore fishing should improve as the weather declines.
Road construction continues on 36, you can expect up to 40 minute delays (west of Mineral).
